| Bio: | I'm a mid-thirty-something, wife and mom. I live in the metro-Washington, D.C. area and work as an archival cataloguer. I'm a member of the Society for Creative Anachronism and enjoy all of the fiber arts and belly dancing. I'm also a huge Harry Potter fan! Now, I have an interesting collection of friends, so when you read this, you may well bump into people you know from elsewhere or into brand new people, you've never met. You will come across topics both familiar and alien, and occasionally both. (Please forgive spelling mistakes, "occaisionally" is a word that I have issues with. I keep throwing letters together and eventually it'll be spelled correctly. ;-) ) Hopefully, it'll at least be amusing. I'll post pictures here when I have them. Oh, and about the name...I'm also "michelle the librarian" from HP fandom, but well, that name was too long and the other one I use in HP fandom (ladylibrarian) was also taken, so I opted for my SCA name (Aelfwynn of Whitby). If you don't know what that is, don't worry you'll find out as Pennsic is fast approaching. So, sit down, take your shoes off, grab a bite (the mezza table is always out ;-) ) and have fun! Additional information: I've opted to rate the journal at 14+ in regards to adult content. And just so you know what criteria I'm using, since LJ is as vague as ever, I'm going to post it. I'm also putting it so that it'll appear as the first entry people see when the visit my journal and will probably put it in my profile as well. Things that will get 18+ rating: Anything that has more than two usages (except this entry ;-p) of any of the Seven Dirty Words That Can't Be Used On Television. (Yes, I am using George Carlin as inspiration! ;-p) What this means is that if I write "fuck" three times, I'll put it behind an 18+ tag; if I say "piss" and "fuck" once each, it'll get the lower 14+ rating. The same goes for any of the other words on the list. Graphic written descriptions of sex, more graphic than the sex scenes in "Exit to Eden" by Anne Rice. Again, what this means is that sex scenes that use any of the "Seven Dirty Words" will get an 18+ label; any other sex scenes will get a 14+ rating. Things that will get a 14+ rating: General cursing - multiple uses of traditional, modern curse words including but not limited to, damn, hell, bitch, cock, twat, fucktard, etc. (Yes, I AM having fun typing lots of rude words! Why do you ask? ;-p) A single use of "damn", "hell", or "bitch" will not be tagged as 14+; it takes multiple uses to get tagged at either 14+ or 18+ Graphic descriptions of things of a medical nature. I do chat about various medical issues in this journal. Most of them aren't things people younger than 14 need to read about. I will not code discussions about birth control 14+ or higher. There are kids out their having sex who are younger than 14 and if they get the info they need about safe sex here, then Thank Goodness! It's a parent's duty to give kids timely and accurate info about their bodies and how they work. If a kid has to turn to the Internet for that info, I want this space to have accurate, accessible info. Most of my fan fiction - Since I tend to write romance fanfic with lots of sex, it'll get the 14+ rating. My basis for that is my own reading experience. About the time I turned 14 or so, I started reading books with more graphic descriptions of sex. It was about the time I started reading more books from the "adult" section of the library that the kids' section. Things that will get no rating: The vast majority of my posts. Most of the things I write about are everyday things. I don't curse unless I'm seriously ticked off. Art - Occasionally, there may be art images here. My husband is an artist and I work for an art organization. Nudes will be put behind a cut, usually, but they will not be rated. If you could see the art in a museum, then it gets no rating. This includes controversial artists like Man Ray and Robert Mapplethorpe. If you don't like it, use the back button or don't look at it in the first place. You know what sets you off, don't look at it and don't complain to me about it afterwards! Plus, anything above that I mentioned like discussions about birth control. Basic warning: It is not my job to parent your kids on the Internet. I have one of my own and my husband and I take great care that she uses the computer as we deem fit. If your kids view something here in my LJ account that you don't want them to see, take it up with them, not me! You're the parent of your kids, not me! So, there you go and now you know! Happy reading! :-D | |||||
